Incredible Rubber Egg

Are you intimidated by science experiments? Don’t be. Be brave and give them a try. Both you and your child will have a great time.
Some parents think that science experiments take too much preparation time. Others parents are afraid that they will do an experiment with their child and then it will not go as planned.
It is ok if it does not work out how it is suppose to. This is a great learning tool for children. Children need to see that even parents make mistakes and things do not always go as planned. Teach them to give it another try and it may (or may not) work out better the next time.
Idea of the Day:
Do a science experiment with your child.
An easy one to start with is: The Incredible Rubber Egg.
What you will need:
- 1 hard-boiled egg, with the shell on
- Glass of vinegar
What to do:
1. Put the egg into the vinegar. Leave it undisturbed for 3 days. Note: The vinegar will not look pretty after 3 days.
2. Take the egg out of the vinegar and rinse it off. The shell will rub off.
3. Give the egg a poke with your finger and/or squeeze it gently. It will feel rubbery. You can even try bouncing it.
The science behind the experiment to explain to your child:
The acid vinegar eats up the calcium carbonate shell which leaves the inner membrane of the egg behind. This makes it feel very rubbery.
Experiment found in the book, Slimy Science and Awesome Experiments.

My BG love science experiments. He’s always asking why. I love that this can be done at home.
