Have you ever made homemade crayons?

You may have seen the Crayola Crayon Maker online or in stores.  This is a great machine to have.  We love our crayon maker.  However it can be rather expensive (I found ours at a second hand store).

For those of you who do not have a crayon maker, or do not feel like storing another item in the already overflowing toy closet - Do not worry!

You can make your own recycled crayons at home.  This activity can be more fun than the actual crayon maker since the homemade variety produces cake-shaped crayons.  Kids always love a new spin on an everyday item.

Idea of the Day:

Make crayons.

What you will need:

- crayon pieces

- muffin pan

- aluminum foil

- cooking spray

- oven

What to do:

1.  Break up all your broken crayons into small pieces.

2.  Line the muffin cups with foil.

3.  Spray the foil lightly with cooking spray.

4.  Fill the cups with any color combination.

5.  Put the pan in a 300 degree oven.

6.  Let the crayons melt for 10-15 minutes.

7.  Take the pan out of the oven and let cool completely.

8.  Pop out the new crayons and color!

Here is what the Crayola Crayon Maker looks like if you are looking for ideas for the holidays.
